Fun Year-End Team Building Ideas

“Whatever happened over this past year, be thankful for where it brought you. Where you are is where you’re meant to be.” – Mandy Hale Has your team achieved greatness this past year? If not, there’s always next year! Winston Churchill once said that “success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” It is this retention of enthusiasm that makes the victories that much sweeter. Enthusiasm is contagious, and honest enthusiasm in groups can only be achieved when individuals know and understand each other. So, we’ve found a few year-end team building ideas to help your team get to know each other better, both indoors and out…

Get to Know Each Other

  • Smartie Icebreaker Buy a large box of Smarties and see how many different colours there are. Now, assign a question category to each colour of Smartie.
For example: blue is a FAMILY question, red is a LOVE LIFE question, green is a WORK question, etc. Now throw the Smarties into a bowl and place it in the centre of the table. People take turns grabbing Smarties (without looking) and get to ask a random colleague a question related to the colour category they grabbed.
  • Never-ending Essay This is a fun one! A random person starts the essay by saying a single word.
Then, going clockwise or anti-clockwise, people have to continue the essay by adding one word each. Try and keep the essay going until someone says a word that makes no sense in the context. That person then has to start another essay, and the game begins again.
  • Guess the Staff Member
This team building idea involves pieces of paper and a pen. Get all participants to write something down about themselves on a small piece of paper. This has to be an honest revelation about them as people. Fold all pieces of paper up and place them in a bowl. Take turns picking pieces of paper. Each person has to read the note they grab out loud, then guess which staff member wrote it. If they’re correct, the person who wrote that note gets to pick a note. If they guess wrong, they’re out of the game.
